1959
Century 19 Ft. Resorter with
Graymarine Fireball V-8 – 225 HP Engine
Name
of Boat (although not painted on transom); PG & ME
Owners: Don and Sylvia Leutz,
South Lake Tahoe
,
CA
This
boat was the first boat purchased from the 1959 San Francisco Boat Show at the
Cow
Palace
. It was used a few times in the
California Delta, but most of its life has been spent on
Lake Tahoe
during the Summer. In 1965, the
original owner of the boat, Perry Davis, who was a Bookbinder, purchased one of
the very first Tahoe Keys Condos and since that time the boat has been berthed
at Tahoe Keys, as we now also own the same condo and private boat dock.
The boat has been placed in Winter Storage at Sierra Boat Company in
Carnelian
Bay
for most of its winters.
I
personally knew the original owner and have used this boat on
Lake Tahoe
since I was eight years old and the boat was new.
I actually have photo documentation of the boat’s usage at
Lake Tahoe
through the years as well as the original Bill of Sale, Century Boat Company
Warranty, newspaper clipping of the San Francisco Boat Show where the boat was
purchased as well as other original documentation.
I
purchased the boat from the original owner in 1984 and have owned the boat ever
since. Shortly after I purchased
this boat I joined the Northern California/Lake Tahoe Chapter of the ACBS under
President Glen Wilson, a wonderful man who invited me to his lakeside home for
the awards ceremony and picnic after the new chapter of the ACBS held its Boat
Show that year at Chambers Landing. I
may not be a Charter member of the Norcal/Lake Tahoe ACBS Chapter, but I am
certainly one of the very first members of the Chapter and I thank the late
Glenn Wilson for his kindness and generosity toward me.
This
boat has never been restored and has only been refinished (sides and deck) one
time. Everything about this boat is
original, although some of the upholstery, mainly the seat cushions and motor
box, have been replaced using the original Century Boat Patterns and closely
matched vinyl. I am in possession of the original seat cushions which are still
in good shape. All chrome and
accessories are original. The
original optional sliding top has had its vinyl replaced twice in the last 50
years.
The
bottom of this boat has never been replaced and only has been re-fastened once
since the boat was new. The engine
is the original engine, although it was re-built a few years ago.
The boat operates exactly like it did in 1959 and can maintain its
original speed.
“PG
& Me” has truly been a wonderful and reliable boat and we have enjoyed
many, many hours of fun on the water and look forward to many more years of
great times ahead.
